Glaciers in Austria – skiing in summer

 

The best known glaciers in Austria are Hintertuxer, Kaunertaler and Moelltaler, as well as Kitzsteinhorn Kaprun. Access to the glaciers is provided by funiculars which Pitztaler and Stubaier, Ramsau/Dachstein and Soelden provide access to these marvellous glacial regions.
The Hintertuxer glacier in summer In the Hintertuxer skiing area in summer 18 km of slopes and up to 10 ski-lifts await the willing sports enthusiast and guarantee limitless skiing enjoyment. The longest downhill run measures 2 km and it ends right in front of the sunny terrace of the Tuxer Fernerhaus restaurant.
For those who enjoy the more peaceful winter activities, this area offers 250 km of signed-posted hiking paths, the exciting Spannagelhoehle cave, guided trips on the glacier from July to September , the emotion of canyoning, climbing, tandem-paragliding, mountainbiking and other great activities.


Kaunertaler glacier The Kaunertaler glacier has excellently prepared slopes,catering for both beginners to experts. Numerous pistes, rich in variations, take skiers on “high quality snow” through a stunning mountain landscape. Snowboard and freestyle fans will be thrilled with the “Fun & Railpark” which has Straight Jumps and Slopestyles.

 

Glacier Moelltaler Moelltaler is the only glacier skiing area of Carinthia and here the skiing season lasts a little bit longer than in the other parts of Austria. With the “Glacier-Express”, the longest subterranean funicular of the Alps, you reach the top terminal in only 8 minutes – the ski area “Adventure 3000”. Here 50 km of slopes and a breathtaking panoramic view await you.

 

Kitzsteinhorn Kaprun Kitzsteinhorn has so much to offer the winter-sports fan. Dream slopes with different grades of difficulty cater for skiers at all levels. Beginners will find ideal conditions on the “plateau” of the glacier. Experts can challenge themselves on the permanent downhill competition run and on the mogul fields.

 

Cable-cars on the glacier Pitztaler The Pitztal glacier offers a lot of fun, sport and great activities! All through the year the superbly prepared slopes are an invitiation for your total skiing pleasure.

 

Cable-car of the Stubaier glacier The largest glacial skiing area of Austria has 53 km of slopes. Here there is the right slope for everyone - for skiers, carvers, snowboarders, beginners and experts. The joy of skiing is there to be enjoyed by everyone.

 

Ramsau/Dachstein The skiing area of Dachstein is open all year round. The Dachstein glacier is situated at a height of 2700m and skiing is possible all year around. The beginner will especially enjoy the opportunity to ski at this height. For the more advanced skier there is the opportunity to appreciate why this glaciers has become a major attraction for nordic ski champions from around the world.

 

Sölden The world of winter and the glacier - “Winterworld- Glacierworld” at Soelden can offer great snow all year round thanks to it high altitude and snow machines. 33 modern ski-lifts and a connection from the winter skiing area to the glacier make Sölden one of the most modern glacier skiing areas of Austria.
